Betsy Fitzgerald is a highly sought-after harpist and pianist specializing in solo and chamber music performances as well as special outreach and school music programs. She has performed with orchestras in the United States, South Korea, and Japan and has appeared as a soloist with orchestras including the former Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, the Kunitachi Symphony Orchestra (Japan), Seoul String Ensemble (South Korea), Sinfonia Gulf Coast (Destin, FL) and the Chamber Orchestra of Eastman (Rochester, NY). One of her specialties is playing with studio orchestras and her favorite performances include working with Audra McDonald (Private Practice), Natalie Cole, Doc Severinsen, Steve Vai, and Paige O'Hara (Beauty and the Beast). In 1988 she began her first contract with Walt Disney World Entertainment, performing for thousands of guests each day at the Walt Disney World Resorts as a member of the Disney Grammy Orchestra. Today, she continues to return to Florida to perform in special performances with the Encore Disney Cast Orchestra and Choir.
Betsy is currently Professor of Harp at Wesleyan College in Macon, GA. Previously, she served as Principal Harpist of Sinfonia Gulf Coast in Destin, FL and Principal Harpist of the Encore Orchestra at Walt Disney World. She can be heard performing throughout the region performing with arts organizations including Griffin Choral Arts, Symphony Orchestra Augusta, and the former Macon Symphony Orchestra and with numerous church organizations including Mulberry United Methodist Church, Perry Presbyterian Church, Christ Church (Macon), and Christ Church Frederica (St. Simons Island). Betsy performed a harp duo concert tour in 2010 throughout Georgia with her sister, Chicago Lyric Princiapal Harpist Marguerite Lynn Williams, and was invited to perform at the 2011 World Harp Congress in Vancouver. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the USA International Harp Competition, Development Committee of the American Harp Society, and is Vice Chair of Macon's DREAM Academy, a Georgia state charter school featuring an arts integrated curriculum.
Betsy has over twenty years of experience performing at special events including weddings, military and embassy events, cocktail parties, receptions, and corporate parties. Her repertoire is quite vast from classical and Celtic music to Broadway to jazz standards. She enjoys working closely with clients to select the best music for their special occasion. This is particularly for weddings, where she assists brides and grooms in their selection of the perfect music for their special day.
An Atlanta native, Betsy lives in Macon with her husband Keith and daughter Isabel. She earned a Bachelor of Music in Harp Performance from the Eastman School of Music, one of the nation's top music conservatories, and studied harp performance at the graduate level at the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music. She also holds a Masters Degree in Arts Administration from Goucher College (Townson, MD).
